The Northern Rockies are known for their truly remote wilderness experiences in a setting the same as that seen by its pioneers. Home to big horn sheep, moose, bear, deer and antelope, big and indigenous game are seen living and grazing in their own environment here.
The Rocky Mountain Elk is protected here and can occasionally be seen running in herds of over one hundred as they pass through our tent camp pasture at North Basin.
On the forested trail ride into North Basin, lunch is taken beside Warm Springs Creek. You will arrive at the camp by mid-afternoon with your tent ready if you want to change or rest. Sleeping bags and mats are provided. Snacks and refreshments are available in the cook tent if you’re hungry.
Explore the tent camp and its old barn, scout around our 160-acre pasture or see if you can land one of those skittish trout in the camp’s stream.
Dinner features a thick BBQ steak, corn on the cob, salad, baked beans and Dutch oven cobbler.
After dinner there is a sing-along with a cowboy and s'mores while sitting around a friendly campfire. Bring a flashlight for your tent and walking around after dark.
The next morning commences with cowboy coffee, bacon, scrambled eggs, flapjacks, fried potatoes, toast, juice and sweet rolls.
The morning ride takes in a several mile loop of the high mountain terrain where game are seen in their natural habitat. One view lets you see 60 miles down the Continental Divide bordering on the state of Montana. After refreshments and a pit stop back at camp, we start back down a different trail on our return to the ranch. Lunch is served at 12 Mile Creek where we meet the vans.
