Twin Peaks Ranch came about as sportsmen sought new unspoiled outdoor challenges in the early 1900’s. They scouted for properties in mountainous settings, looking for land suitable for a comfortable lodge and cabins, an existing open range, and pastures and facilities for horses and mules.
The Northern Rockies offered prolific rivers and deep alpine lakes for fisherman, large game in their high mountainous habits for hunters, and rafters a wild river's challenging white water. Twin Peaks Ranch had all of this and was one of the last lands to become available as private property through homesteading.
After World War II however, its settlers wanted out. E. DuPont acquired the Twin Peaks Ranch property in the mid-fifties. A lodge, six cabins and facilities such as a pool, stocked pond and housing for the staff were built. For irreconcilable personal reasons, the ranch was put up for sale. After several short-term owners, Allen and Lenabelle Davis purchased the ranch. They have held the property for over 30 years and are still involved in its operation. Allen grew up in the Pacific Northwest and Lenabelle on a homesteaded farm in Montana.
After hearing year after year from visiting friends that the public would enjoy these facilities, the ranch was opened to the public over a decade ago. The facilities have since been expanded to include larger cabins, dining room, machine shop, barn, arena and a rifle range.
In the past several years, the ranch has acquired several outposts that are available to its guests including, a World War I soldier’s homesteaded pasture and tent campsite called North Basin, an alpine lake lodge know as Williams Lake Lodge, and a white water river camp on the Salmon River called Ram’s Head.
Today, guests continue to enjoy Twin Peaks majestic setting and the variety of activities available. And with any luck, they will for many years to come.
